You know what I love most of a trend? When it becomes a classic staple…when it transcends seasons and becomes something you just love adding to your wardrobe no matter what year it is!
Enter these new leopard print pair of mules that I will adore forever and ever *heart eyed emoji* When I spotted these beauties in Target it was by accident since I was on a quick #TargetRun that had absolutely nothing to do with shoe shopping (doesn’t it always start that way? Haha) But once I saw them, I knew I had to have them! The espadrille detail makes this the perfect leopard print to wear all spring and summer. I guess you truly can never have enough leopard print shoes *monkey face covering eyes emoji* (you can see how I styled my first pair of leopard print mules by entering Trend Spotted: Leopard Print Slides in my blog’s search box)
Because we’re being #BLESSED in the sunshine state with sunny 60 degree weather, I wore these mules with a light pink sweater and light wash denim skirt- I love pastel hues for spring. If mini skirts aren’t your style, I recommend wearing these shoes with your favorite pair of jeans! I wore them with ripped jeans just last Sunday for a barbecue and honestly they were just as comfy as sneakers would be, maybe even more! My only suggestion would have to be on sizing. I’m typically a size 6 and my feet aren’t wide so the size 6 fit just right. If you want more room and less snug I would suggest to size up about a half (ex: if my feet were wider, I would’ve gone up to the 6 and a half)
Any fun plans for the weekend? Can’t believe it’s fri-yay, y’all! Would love to hear from you loves (:
Skirt: XO MandySue Boutique “Flora Skirt” – Code: Jessica35 for 35% off! | Top: Forever 21 “Trumpet Sleeve Bodysuit” | Shoes: DSW Marc Fisher “Kickoff Wedge Sandal” | Bag: Forever 21 “Round Straw Crossbody Bag” | Bracelets: Alex and Ani | Nails: Revlon Color Stay Gel Envy 420 “Winning Streak”
Hi guys! I’m back to share with you all my latest fashion find and third collaboration to date that I hinted about on last week’s catch up date post. I’m excited to share that my collaboration with the online boutique, XO MandySue, comes with a promo code of 35% off just for you trendsetters! Just use the code Jessica35 before purchasing. Before I start, I’d like to say that all these opinions I’m going to share are entirely my own.
After XO MandySue reached out, I did some major research on their Instagram page and website. It’s an online boutique that was never under my radar but I was thrilled to check it out since going to the same clothing sites can get a bit monotonous at times. Their clothing is very beach meets boho style. Because it’s an online boutique, many of their items are of limited quantity so when I realized one of their skirts were back in stock after a few weeks of visiting their website, I ordered it right away!
I’ve been having my eye on chambray items since it’s the perfect transition for any season. This particular chambray skirt comes with a rose patch detail that is very much on trend for a couple of seasons now. Although it can be perfect with a black or white top, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go with red and I’m so glad I did! #noregrets With its trumpet sleeves detail, it complements the playful ruffles of the skirt. Oh and ready for a plot twist?! The skirt has attached shorts inside! It’s actually a skort! I realized this when I opened the package but it was a pleasant surprise. Reading the description of the skirt online again, it did disclose that so I probably missed it as I sped read haha. For size reference, I’m 5’1 and wearing a small. The skirt has a casual fit- not too tight, not too loose. I’ve worn it for a night out salsa dancing with girlfriends and gotten many compliments!
I’m so happy with the quality of this product, that I’m already eyeing XO MandySue’s latest arrivals such as their precious light blue “Tern Pants” trousers, the “Alice Top” with its fun pom pom trimmed sleeves and the sweetest cardigan “Smitten Cardigan” with tiered ruffle sleeves that can make a day in the office totally bearable. You can visit their online website at https://www.xomandysue.com. Are there any items from XO MandySue that caught your eye? I would love to hear about your latest finds from this sweet boutique ❤ Don’t forget to use the code Jessica35 to save while you shop!
Thank you XO MandySue for collaborating with me. You can follow me on Instagram: @TrendyCitrus and XO MandySue on @XOMandySue
Hi guys! It’s already March! Wowza! This year is flying by quickly…let me not blink haha. For this week I’ll only be posting for today (this is your friendly lengthy post warning lol ) but I’ll be back to the ‘posting twice grind’ next week. Just like last time, I’ll share with you all my latest Instagram posts of this past month and share my life outside Instagram and some personal pics with you guys after the IG recap!
After looking back, I realized the last time I caught up with you guys was back in June. So much new stuff has happened would be an understatement. *monkey face covering eyes emoji*
New Blogger Moments
Trying to be more consistent on this blog, I’ve been posting twice a week since January. Honestly, it’s a lot harder than it seems. It takes a lot of planning ahead, creativity and having inspiration to make it possible. My struggle right now would have to be planning ahead of my two week frame. I may just need to invest on old fashion planner and journal to continue. Through this hard work of blog posting and being active on Instagram daily, I’m happy to say that I’ve had three collaborations thus far! My first one was with ILYMix-you can read about it on my post “Winter to Spring Scarf” and my second was with Ascend Wood as an Instagram photo collab (check out my “Ascend Wood Review” post on the blog). You’ll be able to find out about my third one soon enough this month so that’s another reason to stick around here 😉 Another small victory I wanted to share was that I have more than 450 followers on Instagram! Yes, the goal is for a higher number, but I want to share each milestone big or small because it is significant to me as a first time blogger. The support of my family, sisters and friends is unbelievable (if you’re reading this, love you and thank you!)
If you follow my Instagram, @TrendyCitrus, you might already know, but if not well here I am about to spill the details that someone has literally stepped into the picture 😀
The guy behind the camera is also the guy who is the boyfriend, Frankie. Fun fact: we both were co-workers at a car dealership when we met. We hit it off talking about our backgrounds, our past involvements in church and photography. As we collaborated for my blog, we became close friends and out of it something blossomed. Safe to say we did not expect a relationship to happen but hey it happens when you least expect it, right?
So here are some fun facts about el catrin (it’s a Spanish nickname meaning dapper gentleman): name is Frankie // loves Naruto, and all Japanese things (has me hooked on Naruto now) // plays the piano and the bass guitar// wears baseball hats // deathly afraid of frogs // and has the best good morning text/call streak ever possible.
I can go on and on about him but I wanted to share this introduction of him with you guys for this catch up date!
Although I happen to be more busy than usual this year (I’m really putting this little blog and IG page as a priority) I always try to make time to share the happy moments in my friends’ lives. Last month I went to Miami with a great group to celebrate our dear Daniella on her birthday. Totally forgot how city life can be so fun! It was also great catching up with friends we made from our Punta Cana trip last July while we were there. Last month was also Miss Vietnam Florida- a beauty pageant that is hosted in Orlando. Two of my sorority sisters participated and were placed! My beautiful line sister, Jennifer Tran, was crowned 2nd Princess and my sorority sis, Melissa Dam, was crowned 1st Princess! Pretty much lost the little voice I had left from Miami to cheer them on haha. And of course a special shout out to the queen, Lauren Tram (my psis), the Miss Vietnam Florida 2017 (she’s the one in blue). Her regal grace is goals ❤
Lastly, I wanted to share with you guys a verse that has been in my mind for a couple days: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”- Proverbs 3:5. I’ll be the first to admit that there are times…most times…that I tend to have things planned out and think that it’ll work out because I’m the one planning and deciding. Of course that’s when everything does not go according to plan #facepalm. But after reading this verse (that I probably read a dozen times as a young girl) this time it did hit me like a ton of bricks. I shouldn’t rely on me, but I should rely on Him. He knows my heart, what I need, and His understanding exceeds mine times infinity for sure. Trusting Him can only lead me to the right path so that is something my type A self is working on lately ❤
What about you guys? Any fun or enlightened highlights happen to you recently? Would love to catch up with you!
Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the month,

As it gets warmer here in Tampa, I’m sure it’s about to get packed with everyone flying in for spring breaks and quick getaway vacations. I’ve been living in Tampa for 17 years so that does make me a local of sorts (disclaimer: always will be proud of where I’m from too: New York). Anyhow, for as long as I lived here, I always find myself at Busch Gardens whenever the weather is great. Today I decided to do things a little different here on the blog and share with y’all some tips and secrets for your next visit to Busch Gardens.
WHAT TO WEAR
I’m literally laughing at myself right now, but if I struggle on what to wear to theme parks, I’m sure you might to haha. Honestly with me, it just depends how I‘m feeling. If I want to be comfortable, I tend to go in workout clothes since it’s the best for sweat resistant- the Florida Sun is no joke! If I want to “dress up,” I try to go with some kind of animal theme to Busch since it’s a nod to the animals that the park supports. I also recommend wearing shoes you’re comfortable walking in! I personally love sneakers since I don’t have to worry about shoes getting loss during a roller coaster ride.
WHAT TO BRING
Busch Gardens does do bag checks so the less you bring, the faster you can go through the line. (There is a line available if you don’t have any bags at all!) Whenever I go to Busch, I take my fanny pack which is perfect since I don’t get asked to take it off when I go on rides. The less trips to the locker, the better (; I also like to bring bottled water, hand sanitizer, sunglasses and my Instax Mini Camera for cute mini shots.
WHAT TO DO
What I love about Busch is the amount of rides it offers! I love its theme park partner Sea World, but their rides ratio is less than Busch’s. There are so many roller coasters out there but if you’re short on time, I recommend trying the Sheikra located in Stanleyville, Montu and Cheetah Hunt located in the Edge of Africa. If it’s in your budget for Quick Queue (Busch’s version of FastPass), I suggest using it for Sheikra and Cheetah Hunt. Somehow Montu’s lines are always pretty decent on time pace. Cobra’s Curse is a fun spin coaster but I suggest checking their wait time. If you do get a Quick Queue for this ride, you’ll miss all the fun little displays they have setup while you’re waiting in line.
WHAT TO WATCH
Here’s when my animal lover side comes out, haha, but I love watching the animals at Busch, especially when they do a mini informational with their cheetahs (watch out for their time postings located in front of the Cheetah Run). Busch offers so many animal experience tours since it’s pretty much Tampa’s largest zoo!
WHERE TO TAKE IG-WORTHY PICTURES
If I’m being honest with you guys, this was my favorite section I was looking forward to sharing haha. I know for social media, it’s always the case of where I can a get a cute picture? The spots I’m loving lately for pics are labeled below each picture above!
Last but not least, be prepared to have lots of fun! Trust me, the lines are worth the rides and don’t forget to check out all the furry and feathered friends at Busch Gardens.
T-Shirt: Urban Outfitters | Jeans: Vivi’s Fashions | Shoes: Marc Fisher (Found at Ross) | Belt: Michael Kors (Found at Marshalls) | Purse: Tory Burch | Bracelets: Alex and Ani
When it comes to a good pair of jeans, I tend to wear them all year round. But there are times where I have to figure out how to make certain jeans season appropriate. Enter my recent black ripped jeans purchase. I bought this pair back in November in a tiny boutique called Vivi’s Fashions (located on Armenia Ave) thinking how lucky am I that I don’t have to alter it #itsapetitelife We got really lucky to have some chilly weeks in Florida so these jeans were definitely in regular rotation but now that February is almost ending it feels like summer already here. So that begs the question: how can I style black jeans for spring or summer for that matter?
When in doubt, I always add white! It’s a color that is always seen in warmer weather. Lucky for me, I own like a billion white tees haha. I found this criss-cross front white tee in Urban Outfitters but you can find it almost anywhere. Adding light brown accents as the finishing touches made these black jeans into a spring friendly outfit that I can wear on the go. As much as I love shopping for new clothes, I find it so exciting when I can create new looks with the same clothes that are appropriate for the season. How would you style black jeans this spring? Excited to hear from you!
Ring: Ascend Wood “Gold Arrow Ring” | T-Shirt: Urban Outfitter | Bracelets: Alex and Ani
When it comes to jewelry, I’ll be the first to admit that I stick to what I know simply because I already know what to expect from the familiar brands. That being said, when Ascend Wood reached out for an Instagram photo collaboration (*happy dance to my second collaboration*), I was intrigued to do my research on them.
I first heard about Ascend Wood through friends from church who were loving the cause behind the brand. That had me searching for them via Instagram in a heartbeat! I love brands that are created for a purpose based on love. Ascend Wood creates fashionable pieces such jewelry and apparel and gives back to their organization partners: Action in Africa and Driven Foundation. I also love how they’re committed to their purpose beyond their online store. Just last week, Ascend Wood’s staff went to Haiti for a mission’s trip, putting pause on their business. I love that kind of integrity in a company!
Okay, so enough of my gushing over what they stand for haha. Before I start, I want to let you all know that the overall product review I am going to share is entirely my own 🙂 I loved how their packaging arrived in the mail. The gold arrow ring was what caught my attention when shopping on their site so how they were to deliver the ring honestly mattered to me. Unlike a few stores who just zip lock bag their jewelry, Ascend Wood placed their ring in a sweet pink duster bag in a bubble wrap-protected mail envelope. It also came with the business card of the CEO as well as Ascend Wood’s purpose flyer. The quality of the ring was another big plus for me since I love wearing jewelry on repeat. It’s slightly adjustable to fit on whichever finger you so choose. I like it best on my ring finger and pinky.
I would highly recommend snatching this up or another ring when in stock on their online website. Items sell out fast, so I suggest buying it when you see it! I’m already eyeing their “Beloved” white tee so it’s going to be the next purchase for sure. Their online store also has wood bead bracelets and “Beloved” baseball hats that you should definitely check out!
PSA: According to their IG page, Ascend Wood is offering a 30% off discount today with the code: Special30 . Their online store is: www.ascendwood.com
Thank you Ascend Wood for IG photo collaborating with me. You can follow me on IG: @TrendyCitrus and Ascend Wood on @AscendWood
Top: Francesca’s // Similar: Forever 21 “Open-Shoulder Ruffle Top” | Pants: Topshop “Joni Skinny Moto Jeans” | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Tory Burch | Necklace: Starfish Project “Katherine” Gold & Pearl Necklace | Bracelets: Alex and Ani
If we’re being honest, it’s a sweet Monday since most workplaces observe Presidents’ Day and if you are at work, your favorite stores reel you in with their discount code offers via email. PSA! Francesca’s is having is having a BOGO 50% off and Forever 21 is having additional discount on their clearance items. Not so sure if my wallet is going to love me after today haha.
As this sunshine state is getting hotter by the hour, I’m seeking out the pastels in my closet as I mentioned in my previous post. This powder blue top is hitting the mark on the pastels I’m loving and its open shoulder detail is right on trend. Although I did find this top in Francesca’s, you can find a very similar version in Forever 21 for $12! Talk about a bargain, y’all!
Wearing this top with white jeans was something I went for in a heartbeat. It just makes this outfit into an instant classic. Adding my favorite neutral accent, nude, I can definitely wear this day or night for almost any occasion. If you want to turn this into a work outfit, I suggest that your white pants don’t have pockets!
Any blue tops you’re loving for spring? I’m all ears for new ideas and trends!
Top: Topshop Sleeveless mock neck | Skirt: Zara | Heels: Steve Madden | Bag: Coach | Bracelet: Francesca’s “Cuff Bracelet” | Headband: Forever 21 “Hammered Faux Pearl Headband”
As we’re heading for warmer weather, us from the sunshine state faster than others, I wanted to share with y’all some more spring-friendly office attire. When I think of spring, I think of pastels such as pink, lavender, baby blue and creamy whites…it’s like I’m describing Easter eggs here haha. Adding these soft colors to your office wear palette will definitely brighten up in an office full of black and white.
When I found this beautiful pink skirt in Zara my heart skipped a beat. It was the perfect length to wear in and out of the office. Unfortunately, it has sold out but I just checked Forever 21 for you friends…and the options are so cute that I might just buy another one (there’s no limit to the amount of pink skirts a girl can own, right?). Using the search engine, I typed in pink skirt and found these skirts the most appropriate for office attire: ‘pleated a-line skirt,’ ‘stretch knit pencil skirt’ and stretch knit skirt.’
I added my sleeveless mock neck top to make this outfit a winter to spring transition. You can also add a light cardigan or blazer to complete this look since I know some offices can be stricter than others. As for shoes, I recommend reaching for your nude or light brown heels over your black pairs in order to be full on spring.
Any spring colors you’re looking forward to wearing? Would love to hear from you!
Top: J.Crew “Ruffle Front Cami” | Skirt: Ross | Cardigan: Forever 21| Shoes: Steve Madden
I’m back from Miami but my voice isn’t back just yet haha *currently sipping hot tea while typing this*. As you might have noted on my Instagram page, I’ve spent the weekend in Miami in celebration for one of my closest friends’ birthday (happy birthday again Dani!) Although I might be a bit worse for wear, I wanted to share with you guys this easy Valentine’s Day look for the office tomorrow that you can recreate on your own.
I’m all about combining colors and let me tell you, I am loving this red with purple combo. My inspiration came from an outfit I spotted in the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic (LOVE that movie) and I decided to recreate it for a day in the office. I’ll be the first to admit that I wouldn’t own any purple pieces if it weren’t for my sorority (#purpleandwhitefam). Purple seems to be a tricky color to combine but I honestly love how it can be styled with red. I found this purple ruffle cami in J.Crew and the red pencil skirt in Ross. Adding my tan cardigan and heels as a neutral makes this outfit come together wonderfully.
Even though this year’s Valentine’s Day does fall in the middle of the week, it does give a great excuse to doll up for work, don’t you think?
Dress: Express “Velvet Ruffle One Shoulder Dress” | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Tory Burch | Necklace: Starfish Project “Katherine” Gold & Pearl Necklace | Bracelet: Alex and Ani| Headband: Forever 21 “Hammered Faux Pearl Headband”
Hey hey hey, it’s fri-yay! We made it to another weekend you guys *air high five* Whether you’re scrambling to find an outfit for a galantine or Valentine’s date, I’m here to share a red hot number with y’all today that you’re going to fall for just like I did!
I’ll be the first to say that even though I LOVE Express, I’m always hesitant going to the women’s sections. Because I’m 5’1, their clothing never seems to hang right in the past. Yet when I was at the mall back in December (sounds like ages ago haha), the siren call of their display window called my name so I decided to give it a look, if maybe just to admire from afar. As you might have figured by this velvet beauty, I’m happy to say I did not leave empty handed. I was with my mom at the time, so I knew that if I tried anything on she would be totally honest with me no matter what. We both have different tastes in clothing but we’re always on the same page when it comes to what works and what doesn’t for petites. So I went for it. I selected the smallest size on the rack-an extra small and headed to the changing room. And you guys…it fit like a glove! Which made me fall for the dress even more *heart eyed emoji* and I got the mom approved stamp. #score
What caught my eye about this dress was the ruffle detailing. It gave it such a fun and flirty twist to this one shoulder dress while the velvet material is the classic detail that I always look for. This dress is such a timeless piece that I can wear for a Valentine’s date night or a Christmas Nutcracker performance. Best part ladies? It’s currently 30% off and currently in stock! *Side Note: If you apply for the Express Next rewards program you can save even more*
As I sign off for this week, I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be back on the blog on Tuesday. I’m going somewhere out of town for a long weekend celebrating a best friend’s birthday. If you would like to know more, follow me on Instagram (TrendyCitrus) and check out my IG Story 😉
